SB has arrived
So, today was my first day of Summerbridge, San Francisco. Sadly, there were no students to work with, but I did meet a bunch of cool high school and college age kids. There are a bunch from Berkeley and Brown and then a bunch of us scattered around the U.S. We started off by doing logistical stuff. We talked a little about the history of SB and the students that the program reaches. Then, we played a cheesy icebreaker, but it worked so it's ok. After playing a few games we went straight into business. We met the dean of faculty, Julie. She talked to us about good teaching practices and how to create lesson plans. Figuring out how to reach these kids is definitely something that has crossed my mind once or twice. We ate lunch, learned a little more about how to create our plans and then talked about our personal goals for the summer. It was an overwhelming day, but quite productive. Tomorrow we are going to a ropes course for the entire day to get to know each other a little better. Hopefully I live through the day :)

God Had Truly Been Blessing Me

So, I just wanted to let you all know that God has really been blessing me the past couple of weeks. As stated in my last post, I got the RA position. I will be working in the building that is next to the building that I currently live in, so it won't be too much of a change. Today I actually found out that I was 40 out of 300 applicants. Pretty crazy!!! I feel so fortunate for the fact that I got along really well with the guy that was teaching my RA class. As for Summerbridge, it looks like I'll be teaching the 9th grade math class which is the class that I wanted to teach. Summerbridge starts on June 12th and ends on August 5th, so I was really stressing about what I would do before the 12th. I will be home mid May so that leaves me with about 1 month of time that I need to do something. I wasn't really sure what though. I can't really get a job and then give them my 2 weeks notice after only working for 2 weeks. So, I talked to a friend (Sarah) and she said that she might be able to help me get a job at Macys selling watches. Her aunt does the hiring, so things are looking good. Everything really seems to be falling into place. I think something that I've learned from this is that God is faithful to us, even when we are faithless in so many ways. I hope that this post didn't come off as too conceded, but I just wanted to share with you all what God has been doing in my life.

Love you all,
Sofia

Opportunities a comin'

So, I don't think I've told many of you, but I recently heard that I got the RA job. It will be intense. We have 3 hour weekly meetings and have 20 hours of duties. Not to mention, dealing with drunk and irresonsible freshmen and bickering roommates :) Well, this is what I signed up for and I am actually really excited. Also, I have a Summerbridge interview this Tuesday so hopefully everything goes well. I'll let you all know.
Anyways, i just finished my last midterm before break, and now I GET TO COME HOME!!! YiPPEeeee!!! Well, hopefully I'll get to cross paths with most of you.
Until then...

You gotta love college guys

yes, you gotta love college guys, cause they just add such a different spice to college life. I mean, take this scenario that happened to me the other day. So, after being in class from 8-10:30, working from10:30-2:00 and then having class again from 2:15-5:05, I walked to my dorm room in the snow. It was freezing, I was tired and i had my huge jacket on with my "buff" up to my eyes. All I wanted to do was lie down on my bed and take a nap. So, I walked into my building and saw that there was an elevator already opened with a few guys in it. Since there are so many people in my dorm, it isn't often that there is already an elevator waiting for you. So, I made my effort to ask them to hold it for me..."can you hold it"?...and you know what there response was..."NO!!!! hahahahahaha" What nerves they had. I didn't even get mad though. I almost started laughing myself. What else are you going to do? I pushed the button for the elevator thinking of all the comebacks I could have had, or the items that I could have thrown in before the elevator doors closed, but then I realized, it doesn't really matter. We will run into people like that no matter where we go...and we have to just laugh about it. I find myself laughing a lot at the idiocies of others...I guess thats just something that comes with life :)

First Full B-Ball Game

hey guys,
So I just got home from my first full Syracuse game. I had been to another game, but I had to work during the first half, so I watched it from the TV's they have. Tonight, I went with my friend Alyssa, Jena, and her friend Bryan. It was so much fun. We were pretty high up, but we could still see a lot. Here are some of the pics from the game. We actually had to borrow that "hand" from this guy just to take our pics.
O, and yes we won against Louisville.
Another thing, i took a nice fall outside the stadium. Oh how i love snow, slush and ice. Did I mention it was 16 degrees today?

Hello All,
Yes, i know, its been F-O-R-E-V-E-R. (I hope you got the "Sandlot" hint. Tessa, I'm sure you understood that one)
So, here I am on a Tuesday afternoon ready to spill my guts on all the things that have happened to me in the past who knows how many days. This will be a long and adventurous ride, so hold on tight.
First off, last semester went really well. I actually did better than I thought I would. How often does that happen? So, since I did pretty well, this semester I decided to be a complete overachiever. I am taking 19 credits. Public Speaking, Psychology, Strategic Management, Business Calculus, Accounting, and Economics. Its a heavy load, but I'll try it for a while and drop a class if necessary. So far things are going pretty well. I just took a psych test and I think I did fairly well.
On top of my classes, I am doing a bunch of extracurriculars. I am in the "GE Leadership at Work" series. Its a four week class teaching people how to be better and more effective leaders and facilitators. It is actually quite interesting. I am also entering into the school's business plan competition. A friend and I are working on creating a clothing store. I thought about starting a bubble tea store, but I just found out today that a store opened right off campus on Saturday. Either I can look at them as healthy competition, or I can try to get a job there to learn from them. We'll see what I end up doing. Anyways, the business plan needs to be VERY detailed, so we are having a little bit of trouble, but I think that it will be a good experience. As always, I'm working with the multicultural club and Campus Crusdae for Christ. This weekend Crusade is going to see s Christian comedian and you all know how much I love to laugh...so I'll be there.
I am also still working. I am with an 8th grade technology class and a 6th grade ESL (english as a second language) special ed class. I think its going to be a challenging semester with them, but we're having fun so far. I am also applying to be a resident assistant. These are the people that live on our floors and make sure we're all safe and respectful of each other. I am really excited about this. I have my interview this friday. It would really help with tuition too because they pay for room and board. It really makes the deal pretty sweet.

This is a picture of my first sledding experience here in Syracuse.

This is a picture of mostly international students that live on my floor. One of the girls was going back to Hong Kong, so we had a small get together for her.

As for my Christmas break, it was awesome. I know I didn't have much time to spend with people while I was in San Francisco, but I was trying to get the most out of my time in Spain. So, I mostly hung out with my grandmother (iaia) and aunt (Mari-Toni), uncle (Pere) and two young cousins (Queralt and Enric) I can't even explain how much fun it was. We had family dinners and chatted a lot. This time I actually did pretty well with the language. Robert did really well too. I think we both shocked ourselves. Anyways, if you guys want to here more about our adventures, just email.

This is a picture of my grandmother and my Brother. They kept me laughing most of the trip.

This is a picture of my cousin Enric (yes, same name as my dad and grandfather...its a cultural thing) He is eating a bread and chocolate sandwhich that my iaia bought for the kids for after school.

This is a picture of my cousin Laura, aunt Mari-Toni, cousin Queralt, and cousin Lourdes.

Well, I hope this covers everything. I'm sure it doesn't but it scrapes the surface.
I hope you all are doing really well and Happy Valentine's Day. Please let me know how you are doing if I haven't heard from you in a while.
Above are some pics of SU and Spain. Enjoy

Love you all,
Sofia
